All you need to know about Flybuys and digital fuel dockets

The days of pulling into a Shell Coles Express or Reddy Express and desperately searching your glovebox, wallet or bag for your Coles fuel docket are long gone. The dockets went digital in 2022.

If you still haven’t embraced digital fuel dockets, what are you waiting for? Using them is simple – through the Flybuys app. You can choose whether you want to use them to save money at the pump, give your Flybuys points total a turbo boost, or take advantage of in-store offers at Shell Coles Express.

How do you do it? Here are all your questions answered.

How does Flybuys work?

First things first. Flybuys gives you points when you make purchases. You sign up for Flybuys (for free), and then every time you scan your Flybuys card (physical or digital) at a partner store checkout, you get points. There are more than 20 partner stores, including Bunnings Warehouse, Coles Supermarkets, Coles Express, Kmart, Target, Officeworks and Catch.

Most partners give you at least one point for every $1 spent. Every time you swipe your Flybuys card at Shell Coles Express or Reddy Express, you collect one point for every $2 spent on fuel and shop purchases.

As a Flybuys member, you can also take advantage of lots of offers that allow you to earn more points.

You can then redeem your points for rewards – covering everything from gift cards to household appliances, Velocity Frequent Flyer points or even Flybuys Dollars – in the rewards store.

What are digital fuel dockets?

When you spend $30 or more in one transaction at Coles (excluding purchases of gift cards, iTunes cards, charity items/donations, tobacco and tobacco-related products) and scan your Flybuys card, you don’t just collect points, you also get a digital fuel docket.

Fuel dockets used to be in the form of a barcode on the bottom of your paper Coles receipt. These days, they’re digital. This means you can’t lose them, and less paper is a win for the environment, too.

When you go to a Shell Coles Express or Reddy Express, you can use your digital fuel docket in one of three ways: you can take 4 cents a litre off the cost of your fuel, earn eight Flybuys points per litre, or use your docket on an in-store product offer.

What do I need to do?

For the smoothest experience, you need the Flybuys app (you could, alternatively, access your fuel dockets from your Flybuys account online, but the app makes life a lot easier). Here’s the process:

1. Spend $30 or more in one transaction at Coles. You’ll receive a digital fuel docket in your Flybuys app, valid for 28 days.
2. In the app, go to ‘My fuel offers’, find your digital fuel docket and click ‘Activate now’. You can also use the app to choose whether you want to use your digital fuel dockets to take 4 cents a litre off the cost of your Shell fuel or earn 8 Flybuys points per litre.
3. Visit any Shell Coles Express or Reddy Express and scan your Flybuys
4. Tell the team member whether you want to use your fuel docket on the fuel offer you’ve chosen, or the current in-store offer.

That does sound easy – anything else I need to know?

You don’t have to buy fuel to take advantage of your digital fuel docket. If you drop intoShell Coles Express or Reddy Express, you can cash in your digital fuel docket for an in-store product offer, with no fuel purchase required.
