Statement on Geelong Refinery
Oct. 19, 2011
Shell can confirm that an electrical issue early this afternoon at the Geelong Refinery led to a power disruption at the facility.
As a result of the power disruption the refinery flare has become smokey. There was also a small grass fire outside the site which has been extinguished by the CFA.
Neither the flare nor the smoke poses any risk to employees or the community.
The smoke may continue for some time as refinery personnel work to return operations to normal.
