To overcome this, he made the decision to switch to temporary part-time working hours, initially on a 12-month trial, to see if the arrangement would work. After six months of part-time work which he found he enjoyed thoroughly, Garry requested to extend this to become a permanent part-time position. Currently Garry works a 7-day fortnight which his Line Manager fully supports.
As an individual, Garry loves helping people and being a Bible teacher, he is constantly helping others in his community. His learning about, and using Bible principles changed his life in extraordinary ways, and he would like to apply these same principles by sharing them. And working at Shell with flexible working hours allows him to fulfill his desire to do more for his community.
During his off-roster days, Garry directs his energy to teaching others about Bible principles and for this, Garry feels it has improved his attitude, his ability to express himself and at the same time, have the freedom of speech at work. “I have a desire for meaning and purpose that extends beyond what my day job entails to feel accomplished and fulfilled,” Garry said.
At Shell, Garry is given the opportunity to become his authentic self by expressing his values and at the same time, not feel embarrassed about what his beliefs are. Ultimately, this has allowed him to bring the very best of himself to his professional and personal life.
