Palta-1: Update on environmental approval
Jul. 07, 2011
Shell welcomes the Government’s “non-controlled action, particular manner” decision under the EPBC Act.
We will continue to work with Regulators and other stakeholders to demonstrate how we intend to operate this well safely and without any environmental impacts on the Ningaloo region.
We are mindful of the significant biodiversity and heritage values of the Ningaloo region and we continue to plan our operations accordingly.
The proposed Palta-1 exploration well is targeting gas and would be around 70 km from the Ningaloo Reef and 50km from the boundary of the Ningaloo Marine Park and World Heritage Area.
The Exmouth Sub-basin is an important region for oil and gas production in Australia with existing exploration and production facilities operating safely in the region for many years.
