One of the world’s leading energy efficiency competitions

Shell Eco-marathon is a unique global programme, for science, technology, engineering and maths students to design and build ultra-energy-efficient cars, and then take them out on the track in competition.

Around the world the programme inspires thousands of students to work collaboratively in their university teams to put their theories of energy-efficiency to the test, using cutting-edge technology, critical thinking, and innovative ideas.

Every year brings new stories of human endeavour and technical excellence, as teams push the boundaries of what’s possible through two key competition types:

The Mileage Challenge – competing to see who can get around laps of the track using the least amount of energy.

The Drivers’ World Championship – matching the proven energy-efficiency of their car, with the strategy, skill and speed of the driver to see who crosses the finish line first, without running out of their tiny allocation of energy.
