Describe your work on Shell’s Prelude Project
I am currently helping to set up and verify the information that is going into the Prelude Maintenance Management System. Detailed data quality checks are being performed to make sure that our system matches our equipment maintenance strategies.
We are also focussed on preparing maintenance Work Packs that will be used when in operations to ensure that our maintenance is planned and scheduled effectively and efficiently.
What do you enjoy about your current role and what’s the most exciting thing you have been involved in so far?
I really enjoy the fact that I am a part of a team that is playing a significant role in contributing to the efficient day-to-day operations of the biggest FLNG facility in the world. It was very exciting to travel to South Korea and work with the Operational Readiness team and visit the Prelude facility while in construction phase. You really get to appreciate the tremendous effort involved in delivering such a large project.
Describe what makes Shell and the Prelude project unique?
Shell is currently developing a new operational business within Australia at the same time as constructing the largest FLNG facility in the world. This in itself is a unique situation that poses a lot of challenges, however it creates an environment that allows you to learn and grow your skills to a high standard.
How has Shell supported you professionally and personally?
A lot of effort has been invested in Shell’s professional development programmes and this can be seen in the material that is available to help coach you through career decisions and aspirations. Shell has provided me with insights into a potential career path that I never even knew was possible. Senior colleagues and leaders have also been very supportive in providing guidance and advice on how to achieve my goals.
I have also had the opportunity to develop skills that have helped me personally, for example I have joined the Shell Toastmasters Club, to practice and improve my public speaking skills.
Why should others apply to work on the Prelude project?
The Prelude project is exciting and challenging and gives you an opportunity to be part of something that will change the energy industry.
What’s your advice to others applying to Shell and the oil and gas industry?
Don’t expect to sit back and just be another cog in the company wheel. Be prepared to take ownership and know that your opinion and advice is valuable in all situations, so speak up and collaborate with your team to achieve goals.
