Invasive species could be transported into the area by either attaching to a vessel (biofouling) or being transported in \u003Cb\u003E\u003Ca href=\"https://www.shell.com.au/about-us/projects-and-locations/the-crux-project/glossary.html#ballast\"\u003Eballast water\u003C/a\u003E\u003C/b\u003E.\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cb\u003EPotential Impacts\u003C/b\u003E\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAlthough the Prelude facility will be required to take up and discharge \u003Cb\u003E\u003Ca href=\"https://www.shell.com.au/about-us/projects-and-locations/the-crux-project/glossary.html#ballast\"\u003Eballast water\u003C/a\u003E\u003C/b\u003E regularly it will not move from its current location and new \u003Cb\u003E\u003Ca href=\"https://www.shell.com.au/about-us/projects-and-locations/the-crux-project/glossary.html#ballast\"\u003Eballast waters\u003C/a\u003E\u003C/b\u003E will be locally sourced.\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe nature of activities supporting operations around Prelude means that, should invasive species become established, there is the potential for a support vessel to subsequently transport the species to other locations. If the species is carried to shallower, more hospitable waters, it could begin to compete with native species and ultimately lead to decreased biodiversity in affected areas.\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIn the unlikely event of an invasive species becoming established as a result of Prelude activities it could be very difficult to eradicate.\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe combination of unfavourable conditions and the controls that are routinely applied to support vessels, combined with their short time in the \u003Cb\u003E\u003Ca href=\"https://www.shell.com.au/about-us/projects-and-locations/the-crux-project/glossary.html#operational-area\"\u003Eactivity area\u003C/a\u003E\u003C/b\u003E, means the likelihood of an invasive species becoming established is extremely small. In the unlikely event an invasive species is introduced into the Prelude \u003Cb\u003E\u003Ca href=\"https://www.shell.com.au/about-us/projects-and-locations/the-crux-project/glossary.html#operational-area\"\u003Eactivity area\u003C/a\u003E\u003C/b\u003E, the water depths mean the creatures are unlikely to survive or become established. However, this doesn’t change the potentially major effect.\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cb\u003EKey Controls and mitigations\u003C/b\u003E\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cul\u003E\r\n\u003Cli\u003ELarge vessels with an anti-foul coating requirement are to maintain up-to-date antifouling coating certification.\u003C/li\u003E\r\n\u003Cli\u003ESmaller vessels are required to maintain an on-board anti-fouling declaration.\u003C/li\u003E\r\n\u003Cli\u003ESupport vessels entering directly into the \u003Cb\u003E\u003Ca href=\"https://www.shell.com.au/about-us/projects-and-locations/the-crux-project/glossary.html#operational-area\"\u003Eactivity area\u003C/a\u003E\u003C/b\u003E from international waters will have clearance via the Maritime Arrivals Reporting System or other approved system.\u003C/li\u003E\r\n\u003Cli\u003EVessels coming from overseas will have sufficient Department of Agriculture and Water Resources (DAWR) clearance including a ballast water report if required.\u003C/li\u003E\r\n\u003Cli\u003EOnly low risk \u003Cb\u003E\u003Ca href=\"https://www.shell.com.au/about-us/projects-and-locations/the-crux-project/glossary.html#ballast\"\u003Eballast water\u003C/a\u003E\u003C/b\u003E will be discharged within the Prelude
