Fuel pricing

If you would like more detail on how petrol pricing works in Australia, including retail pricing, here are some useful sources of information.

Shell Australia has been supplying quality fuel to Australian motorists for more than 100 years.  During this time our business structure for getting that fuel to customers has changed.

Today Shell branded service stations in Australia are either:

  • Operated by an independent owner; or,
  • Operated by Coles Express.

In both cases, the operator of the site purchases Shells quality fuels and the right to use the Shell brand on their site.  The operator also determines the pump price offered to customers.

Shell also has a small number of unmanned sites, typically in rural locations that Shell operates to service trucking fleets that use Shell Card.
