Shell Parramatta Terminal
Parramatta Terminal is located adjacent to Shell’s Sydney Clyde Refinery. The terminal was built in 1964 and is the major road distribution point for Shell’s operations in New South Wales (NSW).
The terminal consists of a seven-bay main fuels road gantry. The throughput for the terminal is approximately 2.7 billion litres per annum. The road gantry section of the terminal is operated as a joint facility with BP, with Shell providing 60 per cent of the share of volume through the facility and BP 40 per cent. There is a packed lubes warehouse and lube oil tank farm storing finished bulk lubes supplied from Shell’s Pinkenba Terminal.
Shell’s product distribution is by hired carriers and Shell Logistics Own Fleet. The Shell Direct Sales Team has offices in the Parramatta Terminal.
The terminal employs 40 people and is open 24 hours a day seven days a week. The main gate which is a combined Clyde Refinery / Parramatta Terminal facility is operated every day of the year.
Environment
Vapour emissions from the main fuels road and rail gantries are collected and processed by two vapour recovery units. The gantries are bottom loading and are fitted with overfill protection. All hired carrier and distributor vehicles are equipped with spill control kits for use on minor spills during deliveries and there is a fully equipped recovery vehicle and trailer based at the terminal for use in case of a major spill.
Spill containment trailers have been located strategically throughout NSW at the company’s regional bulk fuel depots. Clyde Refinery has dedicated fire- fighting capabilities, which can promptly respond to any incident within the Parramatta terminal.
