Shell North Fremantle Terminal
Shell’s North Fremantle terminal opened in 1927 on 10 hectares at North Fremantle, near Perth, Western Australia. The terminal receives, stores and distributes finished petroleum products, lubricating oils, greases and detergents.

Facilities on site include tank farms, filling gantries for fuels, lubes & solvents and a packed product warehouse. Shell’s Western Australian State office is also located at the Terminal.
Finished fuels are received by pipeline from Kwinana or imported via ship from sources including Geelong and Singapore. Lubricating oil, grease and detergents are supplied in bulk and packaged from manufacturing plants located in Victoria, Queensland and from overseas mainly Singapore and Manilla. These products are stored on site and distributed throughout Western Australia.
Annual throughput of the Terminal is approximately, 13 million litres of Lubricating Oil, 560 tonnes of Greases and 1.1 million litres of Detergents.
The fuel distribution facilities at the terminal are operated by Shell Logistics under a Joint Terminal arrangement between Shell and Caltex and handle a throughput in excess of 1500 million litres per annum. Road tankers distribute all bulk products. Cootes transport is the Shell hired carrier that delivers products from the terminal.
Approximately 90 people are employed at the North Fremantle Terminal including Shell Logistics, Lubricants Supply Chain & and Shell Direct staff.
Environment

Personnel are trained in safe work practices, emergency procedures and environmental awareness. Environmental regulations cover the site’s operations. The terminal has several environmental improvement projects underway and in July 2000 completed the installation of a unit for the recovery and recycling of petroleum fuel vapours.
Community
The terminal is involved in a wide range of community activities including:
- WA Swimming Association - Shell have sponsored the Shell Novice Swim Meets for over 40 years. Clubs from all over the metro area and country WA areas run Shell Meets every year, which is a fun swim meet designed for swimmers from the whole community the opportunity to experience competitive swimming.
- Fremantle Surf Lifesaving Club - Shell have sponsored this club since 1993. The club is situated 2 kilometres from the Shell Terminal. A major contribution from Shell was used to assist in the construction of the new facilities at the Club in 1994 and in recent times rescue resources have been funded.
Shell Agricultural Art Award - Prize winners from various Country Agricultural Shows are eligible to compete for the major Shell Art Award at the annual Perth Royal Show. Sponsorship commenced in 1992.
