Shell closes Arrow deal and studies future LNG plant in Gladstone

12/02/2009

Royal Dutch Shell plc (Shell), today welcomed the closing of the Arrow Energy deal in acquiring a 30% interest in Arrow's Coal Seam Gas (CSG) acreage in Queensland, Australia, as well as a 10% stake in Arrow International - a wholly owned subsidiary of Arrow Energy Ltd, which holds Arrow's international interests in CSG opportunities.

This alliance between Shell and Arrow Energy combines the complementary strengths of the two companies. Shell has global gas marketing, world-class LNG experience and financial strength, coupled with leading technical capabilities. Arrow has proven CSG expertise, and extensive Australian and international CSG acreage positions. Shell looks forward to working with Arrow Energy to monetise this significant resource.

In addition, Shell has signed, with the Gladstone Ports Corporation, an exclusive Right to Investigate a site on Curtis Island, for a possible LNG plant. It is the intention to supply this plant by natural gas from CSG acreage jointly owned by Shell and Arrow Energy.

Feasibility studies have commenced onsite and Shell is currently working on its Initial Advice Statement for submission to the Queensland Department of Infrastructure & Planning. A full integrated project plan is in the process of being formulated.
