Shell Australia CSG-to-LNG Project declared a significant project

12/06/2009

Royal Dutch Shell plc (Shell) today welcomed the Queensland Government’s decision to declare its Shell Australia Liquefied Natural Gas Project in Gladstone a significant project following submission of its Initial Advice Statement (IAS). Shell will now commence work on an Environmental Impact Statement in order to develop this project further.

The proposed LNG facility would be built on a site capable of producing LNG from coal seam gas (CSG) acreage jointly owned by Shell and Arrow Energy.

"Shell is one of the companies leading the field, globally, in the development of relatively new types of oil and gas resources - such as CSG.  Securing approval of the IAS is a logical progression of building our interest in the CSG-to-LNG industry in Queensland,” said Roger Bounds, Shell Vice President Business Development Asia Pacific.

“Shell sees Queensland and Australia as a good place to invest and do business, and looks forward to working with the Government and community as the project progresses,” said Mr Bounds.

Shell has an unrivalled global position in integrated natural gas amongst private energy companies, holding the largest equity share of LNG capacity among international oil companies and a leading position in the world’s key natural gas markets – Europe, North America and Asia Pacific.
