The PLAYconnect program is for parents with children aged from birth to four years and assists children in achieving developmental milestones by coaching parents in how to play and learn with their child. For Glastonbury, receiving funding from the refinery for the next three years allows them to provide a valuable service in the Corio/Norlane area.
“Our PLAYconnect program provides families with the tools they need to make a difference in their own lives,” said Nick Collins, acting CEO at Glastonbury. “Through Shell’s generous support, our program will help children develop strong foundations for learning.”
Shell Geelong Refinery Communications Manager, Joan McGovern, said the company is supporting PLAYconnect as part of its social investment program, which focuses on three areas including education, health and the environment.
“Glastonbury was chosen as a social investment recipient because the PLAYconnect program supports families within our local community,” said Joan. “Through this innovative program local children will receive valuable early years learning that will help support their future education at kindergarten or school.”
A recently published evaluation of the program reinforces the extent of outcomes achieved, with improvements in family relationships, linkage to other services, employment as a program mentor and involvement in further training showing significant increases by the end of the program.
In recognition of Shell’s support, Glastonbury is hosting an official launch of PLAYconnect at their Malop Street site to celebrate the commencement of the program and recognise the outstanding results that can be achieved through collaboration and mutual goals.
