Shell employees head back to school

15/08/2008

BacLinks has organised for Shell Geelong Refinery employee volunteers to go back-to-school for the day.

The employees will work in small groups with students from North Shore Primary School using a ‘Developmental Curriculum’ including the building of a 3-D model of the refinery.  These activities aim to assist students with their maths, reading and writing skills.

At the end of the day the volunteers will present awards for excellence in behaviour, attendance and academic achievement at a special school assembly. Shell has generously supplied a ‘show bag’ for recipients.

Shell is committed to help build the capacity of local community in the areas of education, health and wellbeing and care for the environment. This particular project gives employees a chance to have a positive impact on the lives of young children.

Huck Poh, Refinery General Manager says: “Shell has enjoyed a strong relationship with local schools for many years.  This volunteering day gives our employees the opportunity to work alongside local children at a grass-roots level.  Shell is proud to see great achievements in the community thanks to the talent and commitment of our people through volunteering.”

“The day is a terrific opportunity for our students to learn more about one of our industry neighbours and for industry to view modern curriculum strategies and content,” said Ken Massari, Principal, North Shore Primary School.

This is just one of the many projects BacLinks has organised for business volunteers to work on within their local community.
