Shell Australia today welcomed the initiative and the Government’s $100 million commitment to start the Institute.
“Shell believes carbon capture and storage (CCS) is a critical technology to enable Australia and the world meet emission reduction targets,” Shell Australia Chairman, Russell Caplan, said.
“Because of the significant economic costs that are involved in CCS, it is important that governments, industry, and international bodies fully cooperate to further develop and commercialise CCS technology.”
Shell is advancing the development and application of CCS technology, and is actively involved in CCS projects worldwide.
“We look forward to working with the Global CCS Institute as we further develop and demonstrate CCS technology in Australia and around the world,” Mr Caplan said.
