Smoke from Geelong Refinery
21/05/2010
At one o’clock this afternoon Shell operators identified smoke coming from the bitumen processing unit at the company’s Geelong refinery.
No one was injured in the incident and Shell immediately notified the relevant authorities, working closely with them to put a fire out.
Shell also ensured as many neighbours as possible were contacted.
This incident is expected to only affect the production of bitumen from the refinery – no impact is expected on petrol and diesel supplies.
Shell apologises for any inconvenience caused.
